Instagram is introducing a new feature that lets users schedule direct messages (DMs) for a future date and time, Meta reported.
Currently available to a limited number of Android users, this feature aims to make communication on the platform more efficient and customizable.
The DM scheduling option allows users to choose a specific time for their message to be delivered.
This is especially useful for sending birthday wishes, professional notes, or any time-sensitive messages that need to be sent at a particular moment.
Here is how to use the Instagram DM scheduling feature
- Open a chat and compose your message.
- Hold down the send button to open the scheduling screen.
- Select your preferred date and time for delivery.
Confirm the schedule, and a notification will appear in the message bar. At the designated time, the message will be sent automatically, even if you’re offline, eliminating the need for manual sending.
Once you’ve set the time, a confirmation message like “1 scheduled message” will appear, indicating the message is queued.
If you often use Instagram late at night, the platform may also suggest scheduling messages for a more appropriate time, preventing untimely communication.
This feature complements Instagram’s existing ability to schedule posts, Reels, and other content, offering users greater flexibility.
It’s particularly beneficial for those with busy schedules, allowing for seamless message delivery at ideal times without interrupting their day.
While Instagram hasn’t officially confirmed a full rollout, the feature is expected to be available to all Android and iOS users in the coming weeks.
